So today was my first day on my Couch-to-5k program, and I have to say it wasn't all that bad. Now, we'll have to see once the workouts get harder, but today really wasn't bad. For the first week, you start out with a 5 minute walk as a warm-up. Then you run/jog for 60 seconds, and then walk for 90 seconds. You alternate this for 20 minutes, then you do a 5 minute walk for a cool down and you're done. It sounded easy enough on paper, but once I got out there, I realized it really wasn't as bad as I had thought it was going to be despite how easy it sounded. When I've tried running in the past, I'd get maybe a quarter mile (or 2-3 minutes) and be so winded I just felt like I couldn't go any further. Now I've done 8 minutes of running, and at least 3/4 mile, not to mention the walking added some mileage to that. I think the walking in between really helped with not being too winded. Plus, I've heard TONS of good things about interval training, so I think this program is a plus for me. The program says to do this 3 days a week, but I think I can handle 5, so thats what I'm shooting for. Next week the program changes to 90 seconds running/jogging alternated with 2 minutes of walking. I'll keep you posted as to how the rest of the week went.
Head shot

Now, this seems like a really good way to exercise! I''m really proud of you and am going to start walking today on my tread mill so you know you have a buddy!! (have to ask the doc about the running part:)) I may even listen to your music-sorry if I laugh at the Italiana one! Actually, I love a lot of the ones you have. ok, bye for now.
Yea!! I love running. Even though my knees argue with me at the end of the day, I still think it's the best excercise. Go girl!
